Separated from the rest of Australia by 3000 km’s of desert, WA has a character and feel all it’s own. The locals say they are different to the Easterners, in fact every now and then there is mutinous talk of secession from the Eastern states! Western Australia is the largest state in Australia and with a diversity of climate, scenery and activities to match.

Begin your WA experience from the north by 4 wheel driving the rugged red Kimberley region or travel by car or train across the vast expanse of the Nullarbor Plain in the south, or fly directly into Perth from the eastern states.

Perth

The city of Perth is blessed with endless blue skies and beautiful white sandy beaches. It has a young and vibrant feel, with a relaxed out door lifestyle expressed by the warm openess of the suntanned inhabitants.

Busselton Jetty

The port city of Fremantle, just south of Perth is rich in maritime history with a good portion of its original streetscape and 19th century buildings restored and preserved. Its heritage listing was brought to world attention during the international America’s Cup sailing race, held in waters just off the city in 1986.

Just 13km out of Perth you will find the Swan Valley. The location of the Swan Valley, positions Perth as unique in the world — no other capital city has it’s premier wine region located so close. Vienna comes in a close second.

A ferry ride from Perth is sun-drenched Rottnest island. Snorkel, dive or relax with a round of golf. You can meet the local ‘quokkas’ or native marsupials on a guided tour or take in the island on rented bicycles.

South of Perth are some of the best surfing beaches in Australia. Enjoy the beach at Margaret River in the morning. Spend the afternoon and evening exploring the rich wine district or visiting the towering Karri forests. Along the windswept coastline further south, search for humpback whales out to sea from scenic lookouts along the many walking tracks.

Monkey Mia dolphins

North of Perth about 850km is the Gascoyne region famous Ningaloo and WA’s Barrier Reef provide diving and snorkelling with the whale sharks which gather to feed on the plankton. Monkey Mia Beach, part of the Shark Bay World Heritage region is home to dolphins and dugongs.

One of the world’s last great wilderness areas, the remote and beautiful wild red ranges of the Kimberly region is in the far north of the state. Take seven days to explore this ancient and rugged country of deep gorges, towering waterfalls and the strange Boab tree. Travel from the outback town of Kununurra to the historic pearling town of Broome. Enjoy a camel ride on the sands of Cable Beach as the sun sets on yet another perfect West Australian day.
